Proposal For The Technologies I Chose To Use.

  •    I chose to use Infogram for question 1 because this technology has infographics for my audience and it is creative. I will be able to illustrate the questions with the colours and it will attract more of my audience and Question 2 because there is enough information which I need to explain and by using this technology it will make the point be crystal clear.

  •    I chose a Podcast and I will upload it on soundcloud to get a embedding code, for question 3 because this technology will best suit my question because it consists of research which is reliable and speaking about it to the audience would be quick and easy as it will keep the audience revived and awake.

  •     I decided to choose a Video recording with HD Quality and embed it via Youtube for question 4 because this will be suitable for my question and I prefer to answer this question using a video and I can exchange actions in the video making it a reinforcement for the audience. It will be engaging and clear.

  •    I decided to choose Mindomo for question 5 and question 6 it is creative the arrows and the images , I will need to analyse my magazine in depth using this and it is dynamic and creative and interactive in terms of dragging the cursor onto the map itself.

  •    I will be using Prezi for question 7 because slideshow is similar to prezi, and it will be dynamic, I could add both my preliminary task and final product to annotate. It will be easier to assess to  annotate it. The structure of the questions relate to the style of my magazine. It is more interactive and fun to use compared to using a powerpoint presentation. It is suitable for this question

How does my final product compare to my draft and plan:

Person A - The draft does not have journalistic writing. The final product does and it is different and humorous.

Person D -  The effort in the overall product and the teasers are different.

I have analysed this feedback and I will take on board the following weaknesses the colour scheme is too bright, I will add more images to the contents to make it more interesting. I will make my journalism engaging and visual.

Photography Studio & Camera Angle Shots

Camera settings

A and S are dials on the Nikon Camera

FOR Shutter priority : I realised that the time the shutter is opened, there is a slower speed and the longer the shutter is exposed to light resulting in a brighter image. The shutter priority is effective for the foreground (certain body features) to be focused in more detail while the background remains less concentrated.

The faster the speed, the quicker the shutter is opened and vice versa.

FOR Aperture : The Aperture setting you chose will impact on how big or small the lens within the camera gets. The size of the opening in the lens when a picture is taken.  The larger the lens, the more light that gets in and the smaller the lens the less light that gets in. Aperture is measured in 'f-stops' e.g. f/2.5, f/5.6, f/5.3.

Depth of feel is when the foreground and background are similar and shallow depth of feel is the foreground and background have a different look and feel to it. At the back of the trinity camera is the flash. The flash light is used to freeze a mobile shot.
I will be using the shallow depth of feel first and see the outcome.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The round objects are called the 'Reflectors' and they are either in gold or white. The gold reflector is used to reflect a warm glow on the model's face however, the white reflector is used to emit greater light.
I will be using a golden reflector to my model's face to make it look natural and have a light glow to it to make it look plausible.

The DSLR cameras, I will not look through the main screen view because I won't be able to see my model clearly so, I must look through the view camera, position my model 6 foot in front of the backdrop (main background). The difference between manual and non-manual cameras is that, with manual you won't hear the beep as you take the picture but with non-manual cameras you will hear a beep.

The shoot is on Nikons D7000 18 mega pixels DSLR

There are two forms of photo shoot backgrounds and these are the white black drop and the black white drop.  I will be using a black backdrop for my front cover page and my main model in the contents page. The white black drop changes the format of the background to white while the black back drop transforms the colour of the background to black, use flash while taking photos; Soft boxes are used to soften the light reflected on my model. However, umbrellas can also be used as an alternative to soften the light but Soft boxes are more effective. The fans in the Soft boxes are used to cool down the surroundings. Also the mechanism Godox (transmitter) behind each Soft Box is used for infra-red (sends a signal) lightening.

When I Press 'test' to the start the camera, I notice that 1 is the lowest flash number meaning it is the lowest light intensity; 6 is the highest flash number meaning that there is a bigger contrast.

Ideas for model angle shots.

1
3.
2.

I chose these model angle shots, to give myself an idea of what poses and facial expressions which will connect to the audience. I have decided to take a medium shot for my front cover because it will be different from the case study on the Q magazine which  are usually closeups and also the direct eye contact to the reader is fierce. The CU  (closeup) would be useful for my contents page and double page spread because the eye contact and  postures, gestures are strong and simple and this is something I will express in my magazine. To give an eye candy and eye catching feel to optimism.

Research on Distribution of Magazines

Publishers: The institutions that produce the magazine, in the UK there are four large publishers, and a number of smaller institutions. The main four are EMAP Bauer, NatMag, Conde Nast and IPC. They control the design and editorial content of the magazine.
I researched IPC Media and found out that they do not have anything of hiphop therefore this is a gap in the market. They are a reliable company.

Distribution networks of magazines Each publisher uses a network of distributors , who manage the flow of magazines from the printer to the final newsstand, where the magazine is sold. Magazines are taken in lorries to regional distributor, who then move these on to the shop or newsstand. The main shops where magazines are sold at supermarkets or newsagent. Magazines cost more to publish, the glossy and full coloured pages and the printing cost.

Sale or Return is the system used by magazine and newspaper distributor with news-stands  Any copies which are not sold, are returned to the distributor, with no cost to the retailer. This is a benefit to the retailer as there is no risk or wastage involved. However you have to pay for the distribution cost as you pay people for distributing it.

Subscription-postal/ electronic: Regular readers of magazines, particularly niche publications, may wish to subscribe to a number of issues. When you subscribe to a magazine you may pay for a months and free magazines are posted to you regularly. This is easier for the audience, and ensures a regular core readership for the magazine. Electronic distribution works in a similar way, except the magazine will be delivered to the customer's inbox, Kindle Fire or iPad/tablet.
Direct distribution - freemiums are an increasingly popular method of distribution today is giving out free issues or producing freemium magazines. These are typically given out at stations or other busy public locations
Online magazines (Ezines) are different from magazine websites, they are electronic versions of a magazine, with similar features such as pages that can be turned, adverts, page numbers. These ezines are usually free, they will have electronic features such as video clips and hyperlinks that redirect the reader to another source. They are cheaper and no printing costs at all and you do not need to distribute it.
Apps; Many magazines now have smartphone or iPad apps with some or all of the content available in the hard copy of the magazine. These may be linked via a smart QR code on the front cover of a magazine.
The electronic brand extension;  Most magazines now extend their brand with an online presence, for example social networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Myspace.

Magazine newsstand task

In the store there was a variety of magazines right above each section of  a music CD distributions, this is a quite intelligent because the model in the magazine could be the same model on the CD and therefore you would be interested in paying for both. The mast heads have simple font and are clear, compared to the CD which differentiates from fancy and smaller fonts to large, formal and simple fonts for the magazines. This is quite interesting, there are different music genres in one section this distribution in this shop was quite unique, because the stand next to this was more magazines for a male audience and the rest targeted females.   Realistically the magazines placed at the top would be noticed first and so will be more expensive and the CD below would be cost effective and cheaper.

This is a different supermarket store and newsagent, Their magazines were overlapping and this meant that you would automatically look at the other magazine thinking that they are together. The vogue magazines are in one section and the 3 other popular magazines are in their own section. This is a good idea because they grab your attention and also the price of the magazine is overlooked. There was no prices in this section of the shop, this is an disadvantage as the magazines would look quite expensive because of the glossy paper and colour print but the context is worth it.

In the local store there are more fashion, soaps and targeted gender-ed for example the match of the day and the wrestling magazines are aimed at the male audience and the glamour magazine audience is aimed at females. The magazines masthead which is red or white is the first thing you notice. The magazines are set together like this because if you wanted to buy one magazine and then you look at the model's eye contact towards you, the urge to buy a new magazine will rise.

Audience Feedback gained

Survey Monkey Feedback:
1.My masthead is clear and simple, the colours are good red, white, black , brown.

2.However the colour scheme should be simple , In the contents page you can see that there is not a house style.

  Class Discussion:
1.Great pull quotes and the eye contact of the model is fierce.

2.The cover lines are unique.

3.It looks like you planned the front cover well but not the contents page

 4. Creative front cover, Do not spend to much time on the front cover. Make a sketch for the contents page large.

Presspack kit

Q is the legendary monthly magazine which celebrates everything that’s great in rock and roll. Since its launch in 1986 it has a painstakingly built an international reputation for quality amongst fans, stars and the music industry. With world-beating exclusives, definitive album reviews, outstanding production values and an inimitable sense of humour, Q shapes music in the UK and beyond.

Q has featured the world’s biggest artists – from U2 to Adele, Oasis to Rihanna, Radiohead to Lady Gaga and more – on its landmark covers. Every month the magazine creates new stars and identifies what’s coming next. With Q’s online presence, a new interactive iPad edition, social media, Q Radio, live events and of course the world famous annual Q Awards – the most exclusive event in the music calendar – the message is everywhere. Music sounds better with Q.
  • Q is the UK’s number one actively-purchased music magazine.
  • Q is about quality and character. Q’s readers prize its lavish photography, in-depth reporting and sense of humour.
  • Q is about authority and opinion. It stands for the music that matters, the stars who make it and the people who love it.
  • Q is trusted and influential. A positive review in Q can make a band’s career – and Q’s major interviews reverberate around the world.
  • Q gets unparalleled access to the biggest stars in rock and roll.
  • Q’s audience is younger and more affluent than any other music monthly. 97% of readers rate Q as a quality magazine. In research it outperforms competitors on measures such as best interviews, writing and awards winning photography.

The Q reader shows that the gender ratio is 68.3% males
I added the ages 15-24 and  the age 25-34 61.8%, these age ranges have the highest percentage and therefore I will target those.

Research / case studies (Planning)

The image shot frame is a close up. Her make up is natural and the costume is quite simple because it is a popular music magazine and not a fashion magazine so it makes it clear what type of magazine it is. There are conventions of layouts which I analysed above.

The genre of the music shows R&B, Pop and probably 'soul' because the artist on the front is Adele and she is popular for music in those genres. However the colour red  and black
denotation ('last request' 'Keith richards's' ) is a connotation of Rock music aswell.

The colour scheme of this magazine is very bright; black, red and white. The denotation of 'Q' the logo text being white the connotation of passion and love for music. There are conventions of layouts which I analysed in the magazine above.

Q magazine is published monthly in the UK. The magazine is published today by German publishing company called 'Bauer Media' It has its operations in many countries world wide.

The language is quite informal for audiences, 'flaunt it' 'blows us away' they are used to attract the audience as we understand and are captivated by what is says and will want to read more. Also 'Secret stash' the word stash is informal it simply means supply. The word stash allows the reader to immediately be convinced and will want to know the secret so will want to buy the magazine.

Analysing an Existing College Magazine Cover

Masthead (logo)

The name of the magazine displayed in the typeface in which it is designed. This is the visual branding of the title and is often done in a specially designed typeface to be very recognisable and unique. The masthead is usually used on the contents page inside as well as the front cover, and as a logo for advertising and branding purposes.

Main image

In the case of this front cover there is a single image of the model, The image is used in a classic way, the face is big enough to stand out on the newsstand  with the model making full eye-contact

Dateline

(June 2012)  Month and year of publication, often with the price. Note that a monthly magazine usually hits the news-stands the month before the cover date

Bar code

Standard bar code used by retailers.

Clear Price

£1.60 (the colour is white) for the magazine and a free notebook is in black and blue. Showing it is worth the money

Caption

Limited edition insist that the magazine is worth buying and is different from other magazines

Teasers

'Ucas tips on how to get your points up' this is a good teaser , as the colour yellow is bright and this is what an audience reads first. The teaser is teasing the audience to buy the magazine.

Selling line

Short, sharp description of the title's main marketing point 'New start New lifestyle'

Cover lines

'Are you up to date? New fashion trend' this allows the audience to think about fashion and going back to school and 'back to college' college is in yellow so it grabs your attention.
